AI- It’s time to Accept It

You are currently viewing AI- It’s time to Accept It

Artificial intelligence (or AI) is everywhere now and if you haven’t heard of it- you’re lying.  AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. AI has actually been around for some years now. At the beginning of 1950, John Von Neumann and Alan Turing did not create the term AI but were the founding fathers of the technology behind it. So why is everyone talking about it now all of a sudden?

The everyday user

AI is so popular now because us “everyday” users have access to it via the likes of chatbots and other online tools. It is estimated that Almost half (48%) of European employees regularly use AI tools, such as Chat GPT, with 18% of these respondents using it once or more a day. However, AI is doing a whole lot more than just talking back to us.

Medicine and AI

AI is now frequently being used in the medical field. This is because AI algorithms can analyze medical images, such as X-rays and MRIs, with greater accuracy and speed than human radiologists, often detecting diseases such as cancer at earlier stages. Furthermore, AI systems can help identify potential drug interactions, allergies, and dosage errors, reducing the likelihood of medication-related adverse events and improving patient safety

A little bit of fun

AI is also being used for entertainment purposes such as in video games. AI in gaming refers to responsive and adaptive video game experiences. These AI-powered interactive experiences are usually generated via non-player characters, or NPCs, that act intelligently or creatively, as if controlled by a human game-player. AI is the engine that determines an NPC’s behavior in the game world.

AI in the workplace

As mentioned, it’s estimated that 48% of European employees are regularly using AI tools and Around one in six UK organisations have implemented the frequent use of AI.

All this being said, it seems apparent that we will have to start embracing AI and learning to use it instead of resisting it.

What do you think?

Do you use AI?

Has your employer / company implemented the use of AI?
